Through the generous sponsorship of Kids, Cops and Canadian Tire, the Municipality of Port Hope and the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority are hosting a Fishing Derby on Friday July 10, 2015, from 9:00am until 1:00pm. The Derby is FREE.
The event will be held during Ontario’s Family Fishing Week – permitting license free fishing for all members of the family.
The registration tent will be located just north of Port Hope’s Marina near the Fish cleaning station along the Ganaraska River.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture will be running a fishing derby for kids under 17 years of age. The derby will have three categories, Longest Fish, Widest Fish and most fish caught. The Derby is catch and release. Prizes will be awarded in all three categories. Participants will be required to register on site before they start fishing in order to qualify for a prize. Bait for Derby participants will be provided. Participants will be notified of designated fishing areas once registered.

Members from the Port Hope Police Services will be assisting with the day’s events. The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority will be on site providing a wealth of information about programs, activities and conservation. Fisheries Biologist, will also be available to answer questions or provide some insight into species being caught. The GRCA will provide some rods and tackle (made available through the OFAH/OPG TackleShare program).

Participants are also encouraged to visit the Port Hope Public Library Mary J. Benson Branch to record their “Best Fishing Tale”. These ‘tales’ will be displayed at the Port Hope Public Library this summer. The Library is located at 31 Queen Street.

Participant are encouraged to bring:
